Intermediate Animation - Gallery
2007 - 2008
This project was inspired by ANIMUSIC, a company based in Ithaca, NY. This company focuses on creating original computer animation of music. Both graphics and music are entirely digitally synthesized. Imaginary virtual instruments are invented to create the sound of the corresponding synthesized music track through the use of the company software called ANIMUSIC studio.
Since we don't have software like ANIMUSIC studio to digitally sync animations with musical notes, our students have to rely on manual keyframing within the Lightwave interface to animate the instruments. Students work in groups of 2 or 3 to design original hybrid musical instruments and backdrops. Many students also enjoyed using GarageBand from Apple to create original music.
In this project, we focused on timing, and learned to use bones, inverse kinematicsand Motion Mixer (a non-linear animation system for blending motions in Lightwaveto make the characters come to life. Students also get to use iMovie to combine the animation, sound, music, and video effects together in post-production. Here are a few examples of their hard work.
Students also experimented with illustrating opposite themes designed to appeal to pre-school children. Concepts like in & out, up & down, etc.
