Advanced Animation

The Advanced Animation course builds skill sets learned from the prerequisite courses of Beginning Animation and Intermediate Animation. Tutorials and projects increase in complexity. Through a project-based learning program, students utilize knowledge and techniques learned to produce portfolio quality examples of virtual 3D sets, models, and animations.

In addtion to learning advanced techniques, students will also explore the art of Compositing whereby digitally created objects are superimposed on actual images or moving video. The student will take advantage of Lightwave's dynamics system to create simulations of hard, soft, and cloth effects on digital objects. To make characters come to live, students will employ animation principles and advanced rigging techniques; along with sophisticated texturing, lighting, and creative compositions to enhance the overall result.

This curriculum is constantly building and evolving around the individual student’s skills and commitment.  Each lesson builds upon previously learned concepts.  All concepts are expected to be integrated in each successive level of complexity.

To put it all together, students will use software like Garage Band, Adobe Photoshop, Adbe Illustrator, iMovie, and Final Cut Express during post-production to create photo-realistic models, sets, and animations enhanced by lighting, shadows, reflections and textures. At the end of the course, students wil produce a digital portfolio to showcase their best 3D work. Please take a look at the students' works here.
